Noah Scovell (alternately spelled "Scoville" or "Scovil") was born in Saybrook, Connecticut (now Essex), around 1759, the son of Noah Scovell (1732-1782) and Anna (or Hannah) Pratt (ca. 1732-1815). He and his wife, Desire Pratt (ca. 1759-1819), had five children: Noah (1781-1833), Louis (1783-1806), Seabury or Sebra (b. 1785), Amos (b. 1787), and Maria (1789-1834).
